Our Company
Since 2005, Fluidity Software, Inc. has been researching, designing, developing, marketing, and selling state of the art education and scientific visualization systems aimed at revolutionizing the way people learn. Fluidity has achieved considerable success in acquiring funding from the federal government to pursue the research and development of its core products. This funding has come in the form of grants and contracts from the U.S. Department of Education, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Our Founding Team
Dr. Donald Carney, CEO, Co-Founder
Dr. Carney has over 20 years experience in the Computer Science industry having brought software technology to market in the United States, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Chile, Mexico and Germany. Prior to Fluidity Software, Dr. Carney co-founded StreamBase, Inc., a venture capital backed software company based, in part, on his Ph.D. research work, with his fellow researchers including database luminaries, Stan Zdonik and Michael Stonebraker. In 2005, Dr. Carney co-founded Fluidity Software, Inc. Dr. Carney has written many peer-reviewed publications in the field of Computer Science and has presented the Fluidity Software’s research and products at several academic and educational conferences, workshops, and tradeshows. Dr. Carney has been the Principal Investigator for many federal research grants and contracts from the U.S. Department of Education, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Dr. Carney has also been an invited reviewer and panelist for the National Science Foundation and has been a consultant to the MITRE Corporation. Dr. Carney received a B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an M.S. from Polytechnic University, and an Sc.M. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Brown University.
Dr. Joseph J. LaViola Jr., Co-Founder
Dr. LaViola is an expert in pen-based interactive computing, 3D interaction techniques, predictive motion tracking, multimodal interaction in virtual environments, and user interface evaluation. His work has appeared in journals such as IEEE PAMI, Presence, and IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications, and he has presented research at conferences including ACM SIGGRAPH, the ACM Symposium on Interactive 3D Graphics, IEEE Virtual Reality, and Eurographics Virtual Environments. He has also co-authored “3D User Interfaces: Theory and Practice,” the first comprehensive book on 3D user interfaces. Fluidity’s FluidMath product was inspired by MathPad^2, Dr. LaViola’s PhD dissertation work on creating dynamic illustrations by combining handwritten math and drawings. MathPad^2 was initially funded by Microsoft. Joseph received his B.S from Florida Atlantic University and the following degrees from Brown University: Sc.M., Computer Science; Sc.M., Applied Mathematics; Ph.D., Computer Science.
Andrew Forsberg, Co-Founder
Andrew Forsberg was a research scientist in the Brown University Computer Graphics Group prior to joining Fluidity Software. While at Brown, Mr. Forsberg led multiple projects, each funded at the $100K+ level. Andrew contributes significantly to Fluidity Software, Inc., in the form of product design, requirements gathering, and engineering for FluidMath. Andrew is widely known as a leading expert in the field of Computer Graphics and Human Computer Interfaces most notably in the areas of Pen-Computing and 3D Scientific Visualization. Mr. Forsberg has published more then 30 peer reviewed papers. Mr. Forsberg received a B.S. from the University of Rochester and a M.S. degree in Computer Graphics from Brown University in 1996.
Bob Zeleznik, Co-Founder
Mr. Zeleznik is a leader in the area of post-WIMP and pen-based human computer interaction, having nearly two decades of experience reviewing and serving on program committees for numerous conferences and having published over 30 peer-reviewed publications. He has led projects in 3D mechanical design, immersive telepresence, virtual reality, scientific visualization, and a variety of Tablet PC applications. Bob received his Sc.B. and Sc.M. degrees in Computer Science from Brown University in 1988 and 1989.
